The South Dakota Conservation Officers Association is proud to present this collection of stories about the inception of the organization, and officers past and present. Sometimes funny, sometimes harrowing, their tales are always heartfelt. These stories reflect loyalty, camaraderie and passion for their work to protect wildlife and natural resources.
Jona Ohm has lived in Lyman County, South Dakota, for 15 years, where her husband Mark served as a conservation officer. As a hunter and sportswoman, she is grateful for the dedication and passion these officers feel for their work. As the wife of an officer, she knows firsthand what it's like to be waiting at home. A writer all her life, Jona earned her bachelor's degree at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota and her master's degree at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. While Mark is out protecting wildlife, she dedicates her time and talent to the children and families served by St. Joseph's Indian School.
