The book begins with a history of banking and an explanation of the forms and functions of money and goes on to explain the ever-widening range of services from insurance to stocks. The work should also be of interest to students taking Elements of Banking as part of a BTEC course in Business Studies. Stuart Valentine worked in the Economics Department of the Midland Bank from 1964 to 1976 and is now Economic Adviser to the Stock Exchange. He writes regularly for banking publications. Mike McCarthy is Manager's Assistant at a branch of the Midland Bank and has lectured for the Banking Information Service.
