David Bock grew up in Eastern Idaho. He studied philosophy as an undergraduate - including two years at the University of Vienna - and then attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He has a BA degree in philosophy from the University of Washington and a graduate degree in economics from Oxford University.

After Oxford, David joined McKinsey & Company, serving clients in Europe, Africa and the US. He then worked as an executive of the World Bank in Washington DC for the better part of two decades with responsibilities in financial policy and strategy, capital raising and lending operations. Subsequently, he joined a major investment bank in London as a managing director with responsibility for emerging markets corporate finance.

David returned to the US in the mid-90s as a private equity investor, entrepreneur and financial executive. He now serves on the boards of several investment management companies and nonprofit organizations.

David and his wife Pam reside in Austin, Texas.
