Since then, he has been to Sturgis over 10 times and has ridden his bike to virtually every major motorcycle rally in the country. He rides over 20,000 miles a year, and has ridden through all 48 of the Continental United States and over 2,000 miles through Canada. Sam is a member of the Iron Butt Association, which sponsors extreme motorcycle rides, including the Bun Burner Gold, which requires a rider to cover 1,500 miles in less than 24 hours. He completed two Bun Burner Gold rides in a single month, one of which was from Houston to Washington D.C for the dedication of the World War II Memorial. In 2002, Sam founded the Deacons of Deadwood Motorcycle Club. The Deacons started with 13 businessmen, and now has over 100 members. The Deacons have donated over $2,000,000 to charities benefiting children in the Houston area. He wrote a history of the Club called The Deacons of Deadwood Motorcycle Club.
