At first sight this is a handy, chunky ring-backed and attractively produced book. It begins with a clear section on beads, tools, thread and other basic kit all with clear illustrations, and techniques are clearly illustrated in colour. There is a clear pattern directory followed by nearly 200 pages of the actual design layouts made up and in colour. These are all right if you are into making large numbers of amulet purses, but could be easily achieved with a bit of graph paper and a few coloured pencils. However, beading has moved on from the main aim of this volume. Current beading is exciting and progressive. I am afraid the portrait of this work is not how modern beading now looks.
