Bearum Scarum by Victoria Parker

Based on subtraction starting at 10 and counting down to 1 this new title features already familiar animals from the hugely successful Bearobics. Praise for Bearobics: 'irresistable for reading aloud' (The School Librarian).

It is a wonderful thing ewhen you come across a book that is a pleasure to read aloudThe children see how much enjoyment there is in getting one's lips around the words and they respond even more to the experience.

Bearum Scarum certainly fits the bill. Ten hunters are off to catch a bear, but bear's friends are one step ahead with a clever plan. The hunters disappear one by one providing valuable counting back experience.

Vic Parker's text has a lively peac with some imaginative rhyme, and a repeated SSSHHH! for the children to join in with. There is also a wide range of animals in this story which help children to learn the animal names. The animals are depicted as clever and cuddly, and their tactics for removing the hunters will amuse any child.

Emily Bolam's illustrations are humorous and attractive, making this a good book for all the foundation stage. And best of all, it is great fun to read aloud. A treat for adults and children alike.

* Early Year's Educator *
Victoria Parker grew up in Sutton Coldfield and went on to read English at Oxford. After having spent 10 years living in London and working for 6 of those in children's publishing, Vic decided to go freelance. She still teaches dance and fitness, a passion since she was young. She has had her work published by a number of other publishers including Belitha Press, Watts as well as of course Hodder. Born in Amersham Buckinghamshire into a family of artists and other creative types, Emily has always flourished in art classes and decided she would like to be an artist when she was 5. She attended Brighton school of Art 1987-1990 and continues to live in the town working from a converted warehouse studio close to the beach. Despite spending all day drawing both, Emily has no children or animals. When not thinking of the next book she likes to watch the world perambulate along Brighton seafront whilst eating icecream. Emily has been widely published by Orchard, Macmillian, Orion and DK. Emily Bolam trained at Brighton Art College and is a very successful illustrator of children's books, among them Francesca Simon's MIAOW MIAOW, BOW WOW and MOO BAA BAA QUACK, and Georgie Adams's THE THREE LITTLE WITCHES.
