This open access book offers a comprehensive understanding of the multi-layered condition of film and television actors and actresses within the contemporary Italian screen media landscape. By focusing on a selection of Italian film and television stars who reached success from 2000 onwards, the volume highlights how the renewal that the Italian media industry has undergone from the late 1990s impacted the training, recruitment, career management, promotion and PR, and validation strategies of these media professionals. This edited collection is informed by the four-year-long research project F-ACTOR, which adopted a cutting-edge framework conflating performance study, stardom/celebrity studies, and media production studies. The volume is divided into three sections that correspond to crucial aspects in the professional life cycle of a film and TV performer: training and early career path; career management; promotion and validation strategies. Each chapter focuses on a well-known Italian actor/actress or related professional.
