He has worked in everything from small-town bistros to Las Vegas resort hotels and now enjoys living and working in San Diego's thriving beer scene. Peter Zien is the owner and brewmaster of AleSmith Brewing Company in San Diego, California. A national award-winning homebrewer, he was the first in Southern California to earn the rank of Level III Grand Master beer judge. Under his direction AleSmith has won many awards at the Great American Beer Festival, the World Beer Cup, and many other regional competitions. He is also an avid cheesemaker. He lives in San Diego.
