He formed the Clacton & District Local History Society and served as its chairman for 27 years. He also assists with the running of the Clacton Museum. He is the secretary of the Essex Archaeological and Historical Congress and was previously head of The Museums in Essex Committee. He travels across Essex and East London giving speeches on various parts of Clacton's history.
