Ben by Jack Townend
Ben tells the story of a lonely steamroller. Ben loves to work hard for Mr Dodie but, at night, when he is all alone, pools of tears collect beneath his boiler. He is lonely and yearns for brothers and sisters.
Jack Townend (1918 - 2005) taught at the Ruskin School of Art, where he tutored, among others, Shirley Hughes. In 1948 Townend was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
