A new section—"Backgrounds and Sources"—includes selections from texts that helped shaped the dramatist's vision. Criticism includes twelve essays—nine of them new to the Second Edition—by Jonas A. Barish, Robert C. Evans, Anne Barton, John Dryden, Robert Watson, Edward B. Partridge, Ian Donaldson, Richard Harp, D. J. Gordon, Stephen Orgel, John Mulryan, and Leah S. Marcus.
Richard L. Harp is Professor of English at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is co-editor, with Stanley Stewart, of the Cambridge Companion to Ben Jonson. He is the author of Dr. Johnson's Critical Vocabulary and Thomas Percy's Life of Dr. Oliver Goldsmith. He is co-editor, with Robert Evans, of Frank O'Connor: New Perspectives.
