Beowulf by Julian Glover
The poem Beowulf is one of the glories of European literature. It was composed in Anglo-Saxon verse early in the eighth century, probably in the Northumbria of the Venerable Bede and the Lindisfarne Gospels. This text draws on the work of several of the foremost translators, in particular Michael Alexander's widely read 'Penguin Classic' text.
MAGNUS MAGNUSSON, the well-known television brodcaster, was an Icelandic national who spent most of his life in Scotland. Closely associated with history and archaeology throughout his career, he presented many programs on BBC TV, including Chronicle, Mastermind, and a 12-part series Vikings! He has published more than 20 books and wrote and presented many historical documentaries for television and radio.
