Sculptor and architect Bernini was the virtual creator and greatest exponent of Baroque in 17th century Italy. He has left his greatest mark on Rome where Papal patronage provided him with enormous architectural commissions.Howard Hibbard (1928-1984) was a Columbia University Professor of Art History. He was a well-known authority on the Italian Baroque, and he also wrote about Caravaggio and Poussin.
