Steve Henry grew born on a farm in central Kansas' rolling hills, where he spent much of his childhood laboring beneath the open sky of the plains. He completed a seven-year term in the offices of an insurance company after receiving Bachelor's degrees in Marketing and Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University. He escaped in 1985, missing the outdoors, and cycled across the nation twice, including one journey from Anchorage, Alaska, to Key West, Florida. He's since organized triathlons, guided bicycle and backpack journeys, and published articles for Cycle St. Louis (a local bicycling journal) and went camping on several occasions.
