Tom Tully is one of the most prolific authors in British comics history. During the course of four decades, he created a wide body of work. Tully, who was born in Glasgow, began his career in the sector in the 1960s with Fleetway. Heros the Spartan, one of his early strips, was in the original Eagle and was illustrated by the great Frank Bellamy. In the same decade, he also wrote Mytek the Mighty (Valiant & Vulcan) and The Steel Claw (Valiant & Vulcan). Tully worked on a number of notable tales during the 1970s, including Adam Eterno (Thunder), Johnny Red (Battle), Harlem He-roes (2000 AD), The Leopard from Lime Street (Buster), and Roy of the Rovers (Tiger), the strip on which he spent the most time.
