Beyond Limits by Steve Mcclure
Beyond Limits is the autobiography of Steve McClure, one of the world's top rock climbers. From his childhood encounters with the sandstone outcrops of the North York Moors right up to his cutting-edge first ascents such as Overshadow (F9a+) at Malham, Steve explores his deep passion for climbing and how it has dictated and shaped his life.Climber magazine
'A surprising revelation and a good portrait of an obsessed climber written with a big dose of self-depreciative humour.'
Alan James, UKClimbing
'I have known Steve for many years going back to when he had dreads and was about to give up work to become a professional climber. So it came as a surprise to me to learn of the "snakes and ladders" of his climbing career. As always I was fascinated by Steve's early days of climbing (ladder), then the climbing accidents (snakes) and the periods of self doubt (yet more snakes), before his final embracing of sport climbing (ladder, in fact a very long extending ladder). What a fantastic book!'
Rab Carrington, mountaineer and founder of Rab
'An insight into the life of one of Britain's most successful climbers, this is not just for the fanatical sport climbers, but a book to inspire us all.'
Rob Greenwood, UKClimbing
Steve McClure is one of the best rock-climbers in the world. Over the last twenty years he has dominated UK sport climbing, singlehandedly taking performance to a new level. To his name he has the hardest sport route in the UK – Overshadow (F9a+) – and numerous new routes graded F9a. Despite being better known for his sport climbing achievements, he is an accomplished traditional climber and boulderer, having on-sighted E8, and climbed E11 and Font 8b+. He is as likely to be found wiggling in wires at Pembroke or sleeping in a portaledge on a thousand-metre wall in Greenland as he is clipping bolts on limestone sport routes. His writing and training advice has been published internationally and he is a regular contributor to Climb magazine. He lives in Sheffield with his partner Vic and their children Harry and Amelie.
