Beyond Machiavelli by Roger Fisher

With two of his leading colleagues, Roger Fisher, the world-renowned negotiator and coauthor of Getting to Yes, delivers a powerful new method for managing complex disputes of any kind: international, local, or personal. Originating in the Harvard Negotiation Project and successfully applied to some of the world’s most intractable confrontations, these practical tools offer the most effective system yet for minimizing the duration and cost of conflict.
All who are trying to settle conflicts—or to understand them—need just such thoughtful guidance-- Jimmy Carter
Beyond Machiavelli compellingly lays out means to analyze and solve international disputes: if enough of the world’s leaders proceeded in such clear, logical directions, the world’s reporters would have less to report. -- Dan Rather * CBS News *
Anybody who reads the newspaper headlines and understands that conflicts—whether in the Middle East, the former Yugoslavia or right in his or her neighborhood—cause tremendous human suffering can appreciate this book… [It] is an important tool for civic and government leaders, students, academics and researchers, dispute resolution practitioners, journalists, diplomats, and anybody who cares to give conflict resolution a serious thought. -- Cindy Fazzi * Dispute Resolution Journal *
[Beyond Machiavelli] offers a clear approach for dealing with conflicts of interest of any kind, particularly focusing on how to help with the persistent and complex political and economic conflicts that, unfortunately, appear to plague the world today. Probably the first primer about conflict management on a global scale. Urgently needs to be widely read. * International Journal of Strategic Management *
Powerful ideas… They work. -- Prince Bandar, Ambassador to the United States from Saudi Arabia
These ideas helped us accomplish more in one year of negotiating than in ten years of warfare. -- Robert Canas, former guerrilla, El Salvador
