The Bhagavad Gita by Ravi Ravindra

A new translation of the great spiritual classic.

The Bhagavad Gita is undeniably one of the world's greatest spiritual and literary classics. A small section of the much larger epic Mahabharata, it takes the form of a dialogue between the warrior Arjuna and his charioteer, Krishna, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, on the meaning of life. It has often been understood as a key to understanding life by anyone, regardless of religious persuasion. This new translation emphasizes the universality of the text by drawing on mulitcutlural and multireligious sources for understanding it. Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist perspectives are included, as well as literary and mythological sources, and the Work of G. I. Gurdjieff. For this Shambhala Pocket Library edition, only the translated text is included; the commentary from the original edition is not included.

Ravi Ravindra, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized spiritual visionary, scholar, and speaker on religion, science, and spirituality. He is a native of India who came to Canada and is now Professor Emeritus at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he taught Comparative Religion, Philosophy, and Physics for many years. He was a member of Princeton's Institute of Advanced Study, a fellow of Shimla's Indian Institute of Advanced Study, and the founder of the Threshold Prize for Integrated Knowledge. He has served on the Templeton Award for Religious Progress's Board of Judges. Ravindra's spiritual quest has led him to J.D. Salinger's teachings.

G. Krishnamurti, G. Krishnamurti, G. Krishnamurti, Gurdjieff, Yoga, Zen, and a deep immersion in the Indian and Christian classical traditions' mystical teachings. Christ the Yogi: A Hindu Perspective on the Gospel of John and Krishnamurti: Two Birds on One Tree are among his many works.
