He then became a postdoctoral fellow at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. After working as University assistant at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Technology in Graz Faber was visiting senior scientist at the University of Tokyo for two years. In 1990 he became visiting senior scientist at Exeter University. In 1990 he received his habilitation in Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Technology Graz where he was appointed to Associate Professor in 1997. Faber's career was supplemented again by becoming a visiting senior scientist, this time at the University of Trondheim. In 1998 he moved to the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Graz where he is holding a full professorship. In 2001 he was visiting senior scientist at Stockholm University and in 2005 at the University of Minnesota.
