Birds, Beasts And Flowers by D H Lawrence

D H Lawrence wrote the poems that would be published as BIRDS, BEASTS AND FLOWERS (1923) during a stay in New Mexico. Also published in the Penguin Twentieth Century Classics volume COMPLETE POEMS, these poems are considered to be the mature achievement of Lawrence's abilities as a poet. The collection breaks from the autobiographical concerns of much of his other work and explores the 'divine otherness' of non-human life.
D H Lawrence was born in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, in 1885, the fourth of five children of a miner and his middle-class wife. He attended Nottingham University College. His first novel, "The White Peacock", was published in 1911, the same year that his career as a school teacher was cut short by tuberculosis. Lawrence went on to achieve notoriety and acclaim for his short stories, novels, travel writings, essays and poems. He died in Venice in 1930.
