Birthday Candles by Noah Haidle
Ernestine Ashworth spends her 17th birthday agonizing over her insignificance in the universe. Soon enough it's her 18th birthday. Even sooner her 41st. Her 70th. Her 101st. Five generations an infinity of dreams and one cake baked over a century.
This poignant and funny play will take you through the highlights heartbreaks and extraordinary moments that make up one woman's ordinary life.
Noah Haidle's plays have had their world premieres at the Goodman Theater, Lincoln Center Theater, Roundabout, Long Wharf, Woolly Mammoth, Rattlestick, and a number of other venues. Marmalade and Vigils are two of his works. He was a Lila Acheson Wallace playwright-in-residence at The Juilliard School and a Princeton graduate. Three Lincoln Center Lecompte Du Nouy honors, as well as the Helen Merrill Award for Emerging Playwrights, the Claire Tow Award, and an NEA/TCG Theatre Residence Grant, have been bestowed upon him.
