The story of three generations of women in El Salvador. Elena is the wife of a rich coffee plantation owner, Mercedes is her housemaid. Their lives and those of their daughters are traced through marriage, infidelity, murder and revenge, all intertwined with the turbulence of El Salvador's history.
Puerto Rican and Midwestern by heritage, Sandra Benitez spent her youth in Mexico, El Salvador and Missouri. She has a degree in Education and an MA in Comparative Literature, and was a businesswoman before starting to write full time. Her first novel, A Place Where the Sea Remembers, was published in 1995. Her short stories have been published in magazines and anthlogies and she has received several awards for her writing. Married with two sons, she now lives in Minnesota.
