ALASTAIR CAMPBELL was born in 1957 in Keighley, Yorkshire, to a veterinarian father. His first career choice after graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in modern languages was journalism, mostly with the Mirror Group. Campbell worked for Tony Blair from 1994 to 2003, serving as press secretary, official spokesman, and director of communications and strategy. Since then, he has focused on writing, public speaking, consulting, and charity work. In the 2005 and 2010 elections, he returned to assist Labour. He is a spokesperson for the Time to Change movement, which aims to eliminate stigma and taboo around mental illness. Running, cycling, playing the bagpipes, and following the fortunes of Burnley Football Club are some of his hobbies.
