Sevyn McCray is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up on Atlanta's Westside, where she attended elementary and high school. She began writing short stories and poetry as a result of her love for reading anything she could get her hands on. Sevyn's fifth-grade teacher encouraged her to enter an essay contest sponsored by the city's Department of Public Safety. She continued to join and win contests every month after winning her first one until she graduated from elementary school.

Writing became second nature to her, and she was soon instructing classmates and assisting her English instructors with grading papers. Sevyn McCray became a member of the journalism club and started her own advice column in addition to authoring weekly pieces. She knew she wanted to be a writer by the time she graduated from high school. Sevyn continued to use her writing abilities as a peer tutor throughout her education, majoring in English education and criminal justice.

She took on corporate America with her writing, proofreading, and editing talents. She and her two children now live south of Atlanta. She's working on her master's degree in creative writing while also running her publishing company, Peach Dollhouse Publishing.
