
Richard Hammer is the author of over twenty fiction and nonfiction books, as well as numerous short stories, articles, and essays that have appeared in prominent journals all over the world. He's received two Edgar Awards for Best True Crime, for The Vatican Connection (1982) and The CBS Murders (1987), and his novel The Court-Martial of Lt. Calley was born in the year 1971. One Morning in the War (1970) and The Court-Martial of Lt. Col. Calley was named one of the top ten books of the year in which they were released.
Between Life and Death (1969), Hammer's first book, looked into the case that led to the famous Supreme Court judgment in Brady v. United States. The state of Maryland and its ramifications He wrote and narrated the Academy Award-winning documentary Interviews with My-Lai Veterans (1970), and has appeared in several television shows and films. He covered the Vietnam War, the civil rights movement, and most other important issues of the day for the New York Times and its Week in Review column before becoming a full-time freelance writer.
Hammer, a native of Hartford, Connecticut, attended Mount Hermon School, Syracuse University, Trinity College, and Columbia University for postgraduate work. His wife and he currently live in New York City.
