Bloody Old Britain by Kitty Hauser
O G S Crawford (1886-1957) was a man who thought history. He became a photographer flying over the Western Front during the First World War. He then fell in love with Marxism, was befriended by H G Wells, and travelled to the Soviet Union as one of its disciples. This work uses many of his photographs to show various aspects of British life.
Kitty Hauser was born in 1971 and has a doctorate in modern history from Oxford University. She has published two books, Stanley Spencer (Tate Publishing, 2001) and Shadow Sites: Photography, Archaeology and the British Landscape (Oxford University Press, 2007). She is now a Research Fellow at the Power Institute in the University of Sydney.
