Jean Rhys, described by Al Alvarez as 'one of the finest British writers of this century', was an artist of brilliance and fury best known for her late literary masterpiece, Wide Sargasso Sea. Lilian Pizzichini has worked for the Literary Review and the Times Literary Supplement. Her first book, Dead Men's Wages, won the 2002 Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger for Non-fiction. Until recently she was writer-in-residence at a prison. She lives in London.
