The Blue Hour of the Day by Lorna Crozier

Over the course of a career spanning three decades, Lorna Crozier has become one of Canada's most beloved poets, receiving high acclaim and numerous awards, including the Governor General's Award, the Pat Lowther Poetry Award, and the Canadian Authors Association Award. Now, in this definitive selection of poems, which draws on her eight major collections and includes many of the poems for which she is justly celebrated, Crozier's trademark investigations of family, spirituality, love's fierce attachments, and bereavement and loss have been given a new framework. As a sapphire generates a blue light from within, The Blue Hour of the Day demonstrates Crozier's dazzling capacity to bring depths to light, unfailingly and unflinchingly. It represents the best work of an icon of Canadian poetry.

Lorna Crozier is the author of 17 collections of poetry as well as a memoir. She has five honorary doctorates, the most recent from McGill and Simon Fraser Universities, for her writing, service to literature, mentorship, and teaching. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada. Many national honors have been bestowed upon her works, including the Governor-General's Award for Poetry. The Globe and Mail named her memoir The Book of Marvels: A Compendium of Everyday Things as one of the top 100 books to read in your lifetime, and Amazon named her memoir one of the top 100 books to read in your lifetime. She has performed for the Queen and recited her poetry on every continent except Antarctica.

Lorna stretches her teaching muscles at Wintergreen after twenty years as a beloved teacher at the University of Victoria and an instructor at Banff and Sage Hill. She's been teaching there since 2010, and it's like a second home to her. Her first home is on Vancouver Island, where she shares a home with writer Patrick Lane and two wonderful kitties who share her passion for gardening.
