A British citizen born in New Zealand and living in London, Debra has a background as a medical copywriter for GlaxoSmithKline and Merck, Sharp and Dohme, and as a health editor for Auckland District Health Board and the New Zealand Ministry of Health. Debra believes she owes her good health to decades of exercise. Formerly a competitive long-jumper, tennis player and runner, she has participated in many forms of regular physical activity, including hiking, dance, gym work, weight training, boxing, Pilates and tai chi. She has been a practitioner of yoga and meditation for more than ten years.
