Derek O'Brien is a writer, novelist, television personality, public speaker, politician, and quizmaster. He was born in Kolkata and began his career as a journalist for Sportsworld magazine before moving into advertising. Derek opted to devote all of his attention and talent on his passion-quizzing-after working as the creative director of Ogilvy for a number of extremely successful years. Today, Derek is Asia's most well-known quizmaster and the CEO of Derek O'Brien & Associates. He is the anchor of the Bournvita Quiz Contest, India's longest-running game show, for which he was named Best Anchor of a Game Show three years in a row at the Indian Television Academy Awards. Derek is also recognized with conducting the first Twitter quiz in 2010. Derek O'Brien is a member of the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal who has served twice. He is the All India Trinamool Congress's parliamentary party leader in the Rajya Sabha, as well as the party's national spokesperson.

He has given talks at Harvard, Yale, and Columbia universities in the United States, as well as various IIMs, IITs, and other prestigious Indian educational institutions.
