Abby Green, a performer at heart since childhood, would sing for her family, some of whom would fall asleep throughout the show. That didn't deter her in the least. She received numerous musical prizes after graduating from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in 1997. In 2008, Abby released her debut solo album, Énn. One critic described it as beautiful.
Her voice has a polished quality to it without sounding slick or generic. Another critic said of Fig for a Kiss when it was released in 2011, Her enormous talents with the language, as well as in music, are on abundant exhibit with the release of her excellent second album. Abby plays her Irish bouzouki and offers her rich soaring voice to tell the tale in Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and English, whether the song calls for rapid rhythms or chord choices that mimic the intensity of a wounded heart. Her love of Celtic music, languages, and sounds has been a true journey of discovery for her as a native Texan.
She appreciates revealing the concealed gems of exquisite music that are frequently hidden beneath the veil of languages that are unfamiliar to our English-speaking eyes and ears. She performs as a lead and harmonizing vocalist, frame drum percussionist, and storyteller with Istanpitta Early Music Ensemble as a full-time musician. In three Istanpitta CDs, she may be heard. Abby also enjoys collaborating with other indie musicians and singing and recording with Texas Early Music Project.
Both live and studio performances of her music have been preserved. Abby now lives with her noisy grey cat, Stoli, on ten acres in south Texas. She utilizes the site to build small efficiency cabins to illustrate green-living ideas in between musical tours. The Ranch is a work in progress called Green CHAI, and it invites guests who enjoy construction, crafts, or simply relaxing.
She plans to continue sharing traditional music after finishing The Tradition of Irish Song, and she hopes that the harmony part will help audiences and groups of people sing some of this great music together. Why Should I? is her third album.
