The Brigantes by Brian Hartley

The Brigantes by Brian Hartley

This work explores the history and archaeology of the Brigantes, the largest Celtic tribe in Great Britain, who inhabited what is now northern England during the pre-Roman and Roman eras. It details their tribal territory, interactions with Roman forces, and ultimate assimilation into Roman Britain.

This powerful Celtic confederation of tribes had territory stretched across northern England from the River Don to Hadrian's Wall. It traces the development of this region from the pre-Roman Iron Age, through centuries of Roman military occupation and assimilation, to the collapse of imperial control in the early fifth century
