British 250cc Racing Motorcycles in the 50's by Chris Pereira
From 1946 up to 1959, the 250cc class in Britain was supported almost entirely by privately built Specials and Hybrids. This book recalls the men and machines involved, and traces their history and development, in what was clearly the most technically innovative class of Road Racing in the 1950s.
Born in Sri Lanka, Chris Pereira developed a passionate interest in motor cycle racing while still a young schoolboy. On immigrating to England in the early 1950s, he went to work for racing dealer Arthur Taylor of Shipston-on-Stour. This provided the opportunity to attend race meetings in the ‘Fifties’, and brought him into contact with many well know riders. He finally achieved his greatest ambition by riding in the Classic Manx GP in 1984, and was a regular competitor in Vintage and Classic racing events until 2002. He has written articles on racing history in several Classic motorcycle magazines.
