British Artillery 191419 by Dale Clarke

In 1914 the artillery of Britain's 'Field Army' encompassed those weapons judged to have sufficient mobility to keep up with troops in the field. This book describes all major variants, from the 60-pdr guns of the heavy field batteries, perched somewhat uncomfortably on the cusp between field artillery and siege artillery, to the 2.75in. guns of the mountain batteries, almost toy-like in comparison. Between these two extremes lay the bulk of the artillery of the Field Army: the 13-pdr guns of the Royal Horse Artillery, and the 18-pdr guns and 4.5in. howitzers of the Royal Field Artillery batteries.

Dale Clarke completed his PhD at Cranfield University, and his Masters at De Montfort University. His specialist area of interest is the application of technology to warfare, and he takes a 'hands-on' approach, being involved in various restoration projects and having experience as an armourer and technical advisor in film and television. A reservist officer in the Royal Artillery, he has served with the British Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Brian Delf began his career working producing artwork for advertising and commercial publications. Since 1972, he has worked as a freelance illustrator on a variety of subjects including natural history, architecture and technical cutaways. Books he has illustrated have been published in over thirty countries. Brian lives and works in Oxfordshire.
