He is the author of The Scottish Beer Bible, (Mercat Press, 2001), and Secret Stills (a study of illicit distillation, Birlinn Press, September 2002). He was a judge in CAMRA's Champion Beer of Scotland competion 2001). He kives in Tayport, Fife.
