Brittle Joys by Sara Maitland
Ellie is many things to many people: a brilliant artist who works with glass, a wayward indulged artiste to her husband, a manipulative mother to her daughter and a maternal figure to a circle of AIDS sufferers. She knows differently.
Sara Maitland was born in 1950, brought up in Scotland and now lives in Northants. Her first novel Daughters of Jerusalem won the Somerset Maugham Award in 1979 and was followed by Virgin Territory, Three Times Table and Home Truths and the short story collection, Women Fly When Men Aren't Watching.
