Buford, the Little Bighorn by Bill Peet

Buford's giant horns cause him all sorts of problems and even force him to leave his mountainside home, but eventually they make him a hero on the ski slopes.

Houghton Mifflin released 34 books written by Bill Peet. BILL PEET: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY was nominated a Caldecott Honor Book in 1989. Houghton Mifflin Company released all of Bill Peet's works, including HUBERT'S HAIR-RAISING ADVENTURE, which was published in 1959 and is still in print today. Bill Peet produced a slew of notable characters during his career as a children's book author and illustrator, as well as his work at Walt Disney as a sketch artist and continuity illustrator. I write about animals because I enjoy drawing them, as he stated.

The majority of my animal characters have human personalities, and some of them are eerily similar to humans I know. Bill Peet worked for Walt Disney for 27 years, and during that time he was a vital player in the production of famous films like Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and 101 Dalmatians, for which he was not only an artist but also the scriptwriter. Bill Peet's signature style allowed him to write fast-paced stories of fantasy adventure that were warmly received and full of laugh-out-loud humor. His unfailing wit did not, however, preclude him from tackling serious concerns like generosity to others and environmental stewardship.

Peet gave his viewers a opportunity to see themselves and their surroundings in fresh ways through the exploits of his characters. Bill Peet once remarked, It seemed to me at some time that drawing was something I couldn't possibly give up, and that it had to be made into a job in some way. He went on to not only realize his dream, but also to introduce his lovely vision of comedy, friendship, and compassion to generations of young readers.
