The Bull of Mithros by Anne Zouroudi

From the real life Shirley Valentine, Anne Zouroudi's sixth Greek mystery with the popular detective, Hermes Diaktoros. Drawn to the sun-drenched island of Mithros by the myth of its fabled bull, the arrival of investigator Hermes Diaktoros coincides with a violent and troubling death. The death has echoes in Mithros's past, in a brutal unsolved crime from years ago which, it seems, is neither forgotten, nor forgiven. Hermes sets out to solve a complex puzzle where shadowy secrets and unspoken loyalties are intertwined. And before long it's clear that the fate of the mythical bull may be the least of the island's mysteries...
Anne Zouroudi writes beautifully - her books have all the sparkle and light of the island landscapes in which she sets themThe Lady of Sorrows, her latest, is a gorgeous treat ... Lovely, delicious prose and plot - as tasty as one of those irresistible honey-soaked Greek confections * Alexander McCall Smith *
Greece has never appeared more beautiful or damaged, and secrets lurk behind every ruin. Fortunately, Zouroudi's masterfully compelling detective Hermes Diaktoros is on hand to sort the facts from the myths surrounding the violent death of a mysterious stranger * Daily Mirror *
Diaktoros is a delight. Half Poirot, half deus ex machina, but far more earth-bound than his first name suggests, the portly detective has an other-worldly, Marlowesque incorruptibility as he waddles through the mean olive groves * Guardian *
Anne Zouroudi was born in England and has lived in the Greek islands. Her attachment to Greece remains strong, and the country is the inspiration for much of her writing. She now lives in the Derbyshire Peak District with her son. She is the author of five other Mysteries of the Greek Detective: The Messenger of Athens (shortlisted for the ITV3 Crime Thriller Award for Breakthrough Authors and longlisted for the Desmond Elliot Prize), The Taint of Midas, The Doctor of Thessaly, The Lady of Sorrows and The Whispers of Nemesis.
