A young assistant priest, Toti, has been appointed her spiritual guardian and must regularly visit her in an attempt to salvage her soul. Through Toti’s visits, the family learns more about Agnes and the crime she’s apparently committed and as the days to the beheading draw closer, they realise all is not what it first seemed.Hannah Kent was born in Adelaide in 1985 and now lives in Melbourne. Burial Rites, her debut novel, was nominated for the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction (previously the Orange Prize), the Guardian First Book Award, and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, and was translated into nearly thirty languages. She's also the founding and publishing director of a literary publication in Australia.
