Butterfly's Son by Bob Chilcott
for S(AB) and piano, or orchestra Butterfly's Son is a fantasy that reflects on the thoughts and life of a young boy, born to a Japanese mother and an American father, as he grows up in America in the early part of the twentieth century. Butterfly's Son is a captivating work, with highly evocative music in jazz and other styles and a powerful narrative. It is scored for SAB choir but can be sung with just soprano and alto, or with soprano alone. This is perfect repertoire for youth choirs or school choirs. Orchestral material is available on hire.
When Bob's score eventually arrived, it was immediately apparent that he had exceeded our expectations; Butterfly's Son was both attractive and serious, dynamic and reflective - and we knew it would be popular with the performers and with audiences.. Everyone was thrilled and delighted by the work and by the whole experience. It was a day that we shall all remember for the rest of our lives. Worcestershire Arts Education
