The Button Blanket by Nan Mcnutt

65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous Period eighty-five percent of all species disappeared, including the dinosaurs. This was the second largest mass extinction in Earth's history and numerous theories have been proposed to explain it, but none of them have been correct. Now there is a new theory.

Geologist Derek Burdette and his seismologist and ex-power lifter friend, big Jeff Mac Mackenzie, embark on an ordinary camping trip in the North Carolina mountains. The camping trip turns into an scientific mystery when they stumble upon the real reason for the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.

Nan McNutt, an American of British ancestry, grew up on the island of Pohnpei in Micronesia. Her introduction to Native American people and culture was at the University of Washington, where she received her Masters in Education (1979). Nan has developed instructional materials for Native American communities and schools and leads workshops for teachers in partnership with educators and artists.
