In 2148, a charismatic politician, Reuben Rogov, wins the presidency. During his first term, he brings peace to the Mideast, stares down Russia and China, solves the border crisis, and conquers the Phoenix-75 virus. Once Rogov secures his second term by acclimation, multiple problems arise. Most Americans trust the President, but a few think he created the problems to control the people.
A young Houston couple, Darien and Marisa, are caught up in this melee. Marisa, a budding politician, moves to Washington to work for NatGov, but Darien, a struggling Sci-fi author, stays behind. Chaos disrupts their lives as they attempt to maintain a long-distance relationship.
Darien's grandfather believes a passage from the Book of Daniel describes the situation: By means of peace, he shall destroy many.
