Monica Furlong has written on religious affairs for many years in newspapers, magazines and books, including the Tablet and the TLS, and has worked in the religious department of the BBC. Her earliest books, With Love to the Church, Travelling In and Contemplating Now were best-selling classics of their time. She has also written a prize winning biography of the Trappist monk, Thomas Merton, as well as biographies of Alan Watts and Therese of Lisieux. Her more recent publications include a book about Aboriginal spirituality, The Flight of the Kingfisher, and an anthology of medieval women mystics, Visions and Longings. She is a practising member of the Church of England and played an active part in the campaign for women s ordination.
