After working as a theatre critic, wine writer, and poetry editor for major newspapers and magazines, he founded the weekly Slow Lane column in the Financial Times Weekend in 2004 and it ran for eleven years until April 2015. Slow Lane explored cultural and environmental issues while advocating for a less consumerist lifestyle. Eyres is also the author of several books on wine, including The Beginner's Guide to Plato's The Republic (Hodder & Stoughton), Horace and Me: Life Lessons from an Ancient Poet (Bloomsbury: short-listed for the PEN/Ackerley Award in 2014), and The Beginner's Guide to Plato's The Republic (Hodder & Stoughton). He is based in London.
