Calculus by Deborah Hughes-Hallett

This book helps work more effectively and check solutions as you go along with the text! This "Student Solutions Manual" is designed to accompany Hughes Hallett's "Calculus: Single & Multivariable, 4th Edition". It contains solutions to every other odd numbered problem in the text for chapters 1-20. Striking a balance between concepts, modeling, and skills, "Calculus: Single & Multivariable, 4th Edition" is a highly acclaimed book that arms readers with an accessible introduction to calculus. It builds on the strengths from previous editions, presenting key concepts graphically, numerically, symbolically, and verbally. Guided by this innovative Rule of Four approach, the fourth edition examines new topics while providing readers with a strong conceptual understanding of the material.

At the University of Arizona, William G.McCallum is a University Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and the Chair of the Department of Mathematics. He was born in 1956 in Sydney, Australia, and obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Sydney. In 1984, he received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Harvard University, where he worked under the guidance of Barry Mazur. He joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in 1987 after spending two years at the University of California, Berkeley, and one year at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley. He became a member of the Harvard calculus consortium in 1989 and is the principal author of the consortium's multivariable calculus and college algebra textbooks.

He spent a year at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques in 1993-94, then a year at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1995-96, thanks to an American Mathematical Society Centennial Fellowship. The National Science Foundation awarded him the Director's Award for Outstanding Teaching Scholars in 2005. He launched the University of Arizona's Institute for Mathematics and Education in 2006. He was the Institute's Director until 2009, and now serves on its advisory board.

He led the work group that established the NGA/CCSSO Common Core Math Standards in 2009-2010. Mathematical algebraic geometry and mathematics teaching are two of his professional interests.
