SIMONE MORO, an Italian alpinist who specializes in winter climbing, was born in Bergamo in 1967. Before beginning his own rescue company, he was the coach of the Italian national climbing team and a member of helicopter crews in Nepal. He was awarded the 'Medaglia d'Oro al Valore Civile' (an Italian honor bestowed for outstanding achievements or bravery) in 2001.
