Carl Larsson was born in a impoverished household in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1853. At the age of thirteen, he was accepted into the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a newspaper and magazine illustrator for several years. He moved to Paris, where he met his wife Karin, who was also an artist, as a destitute artist. They returned to Sundborn, Sweden, in 1888. Carl Larsson is well known for his beautiful watercolour paintings of his home and family, which have become popular thanks to a series of publications.
