The Cat's Whispers by Cat Harvey
This is the frank and hilarious diary of Real Radio's breakfast babe, Cat Harvey. Ever since she took her first job - which paid in free leg warmers - the working life of Cat Harvey has been a bit unusual. Now, that she gets up at 3.45 a.m. to entertain Scotland as half of the biggest breakfast radio show in the UK outside London, things have only gotten stranger. Now a typical day can involve asking the First Minister on Real Radio how he feels about Speedos, risking safety (and dignity) on an inflatable assault course or trying to sneak the word 'munchkin' into a primetime BBC sports programme. And this year there's panto at the Pavilion and an eighteen hour day to look forward to in December. In "The Cat's Whispers", Cat Harvey chronicles her fascinating and hilarious life on and off the air, while popstars have water-fights or primp and preen all around, diet and gym commitments fall time and again by the wayside, and pink pyjamas are worn out to dinner (complemented, of course, by pink diamante sandals, and a pink waist-length wig). As Cat says, 'On radio, I am a perfect size ten and all my tops tuck in.' Well, here - as the stories of listeners reduce her to tears of laughter or her mother tells her off for saying a bad word on the radio - Cat is sometimes dishevelled, sometimes self-deprecating, but always herself.
Catriona Harvey is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster from Glasgow. Born in 1972, she is, and shall remain, showbiz 26. She presents the Real Radio Breakfast Show and Offside for BBC Scotland. She became Cat when Catriona didn't fit into the Breakfast jingle.
