Catholic School Girls by Catherine Trieschmann
Dramatic Comedy / 3f Fourteen year old Laney arrives in Oxford, Mississippi with a twisted back, a mother in crisis and a burning desire to be writer. When she befriends Maribel Purdy, a fervent believer in the power of Jesus Christ to save her from the humiliations of high school, Laney embarks on a hilarious spiritual and sexual journey that challenges her mother's secular worldview and threatens to tear their fragile relationship apart. "The work of a big accomplished writer's voice...a gem of a discovery." -The New York Times "Gorgeous almost beyond belief." -The London Times "This is a wonderfully neat play, at once simple and complex, grappling with big issues - matters of faith, fantasy and the flesh - while keeping its sneakers firmly planted on the suburban topsoil of adolescent angst and domestic frictions." - The Daily TelegraphThe Bridegroom of Blowing Rock (Weissberger Prize), crooked, The World of Others, Hot Georgia Sunday, Little and Selfish Animals, and How the World Started are among Catherine Trieschmann's plays. The Women's Project, South Coast Repertory, the Bush Theatre, the New Theatre (Sydney), American Theatre Company (Chicago), Florida Stage, the Summer Play Festival, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Theatre in the Square, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the New York International Fringe Festival have all performed her work off-Broadway. South Coast Repertory Theatre and Manhattan Theatre Club have both given her commissions. She also penned the screenplay for Angel's Crest, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2011. She was born in Athens, Georgia, and now lives in a small village in western Kansas.
