The Ceremonial Funeral of Baroness Thatcher by Thomas J Plunkett
At the funeral of the Duke of Wellington over 160 years ago, Queen Victoria's lithographers designed and produced sketches of that occasion for sale to the public. Likewise, at Sir Winston Churchill's funeral, almost a century later, Charles Mozley produced a watercolour sketchbook of the procession. It was with the intention of repeating these tributes, this time for Margaret Thatcher, the longest serving Prime Minister of the last century, and only female Prime Minister, that Thomas Plunkett has completed these sketches with an urgency that he does not try to conceal.
Thomas Plunkett, elected President of the Royal Watercolour Society in 2012, was born in London and studied Fine Art and English Literature at the University of Chester and the University of London's Institute of Education. He has exhibited widely, including The Royal Watercolour Society at Bankside Gallery, the Art on Paper Fair at the Royal College of Art with Julian Lax, The Watercolour and Drawing Fair, London, The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and The Royal Society of British Artists.
